Axiomatics releases free plugin for the Eclipse IDE to author XACML 3.0 policies

Vail, July 16 2012 – With the release of its latest product, the ALFA plugin for Eclipse IDE, Axiomatics provides easier ways to author XACML 3.0 policies helping developers tackle authorization quicker than ever before. The plugin generates XACML 3.0 policies from a new language, the Axiomatics Language for Authorization, ALFA, which borrows much of its syntax and look & feel from common programming languages such as Java and C#.

Developers can use Eclipse and its acclaimed functionality such as syntax checking and auto-complete to quickly write ALFA policies. The ALFA plugin automatically generates the XACML equivalent on the fly which can then be exported to compliant policy decision points.

Axiomatics, the leading independent XACML authorization solution supplier, is launching a new product to simplify the authoring process for authorization policies. The new product plugs directly into Eclipse IDE removing the need for developers to install yet another tool. Policy authoring becomes easier and faster as the XML syntax and encoding are abstracted away. The ALFA plugin was unveiled at the Cloud Identity Summit 2012, in Vail, CO, where Gerry Gebel and David Brossard of Axiomatics led a XACML hands-on workshop. Previously developers had to edit XACML by hand or use administrative click, drag & drop tooling. These tools, while useful, are really meant for administrators rather than developers.

“With the new plugin, more developers will be able to use XACML in their applications” says David Brossard, VP Product Management. “It also helps in XACML workshops where attendees can all get their hands dirty with sample policies. And there is more to come as Axiomatics is currently defining a JSON profile for XACML within the OASIS XACML Technical Committee. This will help make XACML cloud-ready”, concludes Brossard.

The ALFA plugin for Eclipse is now available for free for non-commercial use. Users can register on the Axiomatics website to download their own copy and get started.
